Why Fluid Film over Rubberized Coatings
Fluid Film is a lanolin-based, petroleum-free rust inhibitor — fundamentally different from spray-on rubberized undercoating. Instead of forming a brittle shell that can crack and trap moisture underneath, Fluid Film penetrates existing rust, displaces moisture, and stays slightly flexible so it creeps into seams, welds, and cavities that coatings can’t reach. It’s used by the U.S. military, municipal road crews, and commercial operators who need real-world durability in salt-heavy environments. Applied annually, it’s one of the most cost-effective preventive maintenance decisions a fleet manager can make in a northern climate.
Rubberized Undercoating
- Forms a hard shell that cracks over time
- Trapped moisture accelerates rust beneath the coating
- Doesn’t penetrate seams, welds, or cavities
- Once compromised, difficult to reapply correctly
- Can mask rust damage that’s still progressing
Fluid Film
- Stays flexible – creeps into every seam and joint
- Displaces moisture and stops active rust oxidation
- Safe to apply over existing surface rust
- Annual reapplication is simple and effective
- Used by military, municipalities, and farms globally
⎯ THE Numbers
What It Actually Costs to Skip It
Every time you send a vehicle to a shop for rust-related work — or lose it to premature frame failure — you’re paying in ways that compound. Here’s what mobile, on-site undercoating actually saves you compared to the alternative.
Cost Without Mobile Undercoating
Typical Cost
With 207 Undercoating
Shop Drop-Off & Pick-Up
Driver time to deliver and retrieve the vehicle. Two trips at 30–60 min each, potentially pulling a productive employee off their route or job site.
$75 – $150
per vehicle in labor time
$0
we come to you
Vehicle Off the Road
A work truck sitting at a shop for several hours is a truck not earning. For trades and delivery operations, that’s real lost revenue or delayed jobs.
$250 – $600+
in productivity per vehicle per day
~1.5hr
vehicle stays at your yard
Shop Labor Rate
A shop mechanic applying undercoating bills at $100–$150/hr. That’s a well-compensated professional spending their time on a maintenance task — not a repair.
$125 – $200
in shop labor per vehicle
Included
in flat per-vehicle pricing
Rust Damage Repair (if skipped)
Frame rust, rocker panels, cross members, brake line corrosion. Repairs range from a few hundred dollars to totaling a vehicle that runs fine mechanically.
$800 – $6,000+
per incident, per vehicle
Prevented
with annual treatment
Early Vehicle Replacement
Rust that compromises structural integrity forces early retirement of a vehicle that could have served 3–5 additional years with proper maintenance.
$35,000 – $80,000
in replacement cost per unit
Extended Life
3–5 additional service years
Annual undercoating cost per vehicle
~$350
Estimated per-vehicle savings vs shop
$450 – $950
Long-term rust prevention value per vehicle
$5000+
* Cost estimates are illustrative ranges based on typical Maine/NH shop rates, commercial driver wages, and documented rust repair averages. Your actual savings will vary by fleet size, vehicle type, and operation. We’re happy to walk through the math for your specific situation on a quote call.

Tips & Tricks
Is Undercoating Really Worth It for My Vehicle?
We get this question every single week. Someone calls up about their truck they’ve owned for three years, notices a little surface rust starting to bloom around the frame rails, and wonders — is it too late? Was undercoating just a dealer upsell they should have taken? Or is it one of those things that […]

When Is the Best Time of Year to Undercoat Your Vehicle in Maine and New Hampshire?
If you live in Maine or New Hampshire, rust is not a matter of if, it is a matter of when. Between snow, road salt, coastal moisture, and long winters, vehicles in this region face some of the harshest corrosion conditions in the country. Most drivers start thinking about undercoating in the fall. That timing […]

Why Winter Undercoating Still Matters
Why Winter Undercoating Is A Great Choice A lot of drivers think they’ve “missed the window” for rust protection once winter hits. With salt, sand, and brine already covering the roads, it’s easy to assume you waited too long. The truth? Using a lanolin-based product like Fluid Film makes undercoating safe, effective, and smart even […]
